Heh, you mean to keep Chris’ stuff separate from things like Civil War, right? I just wish he hadn’t killed off some of my favorite characters — I wanted to see a Claremont-written Logan, etc. again.
Moar Baller Dawgz naow plz.
It was my understanding that Claremont’s contract requires him to be on two books a month. Not sure how long that contract goes for. Maybe until January, looking at the solicits.
I don’t mind Chris Claremont’s work. I enjoyed his run on the FF title. He actually gave Ben Grimm some depth and intelligence, something many other writers tend to forget (the guy was a test pilot for the USAF, so he must know something about maths, engineering and physics). The only work of Claremont’s I haven’t enjoyed was his run on Exiles. He broke up a great team just to write his own fan-fiction.
I am sad at the impending loss of XMF. I liked his Exiles, actually, though I hasten to point out that he was limited by editorial to a certain range of characters, so he may have just been doing the best he could with who he was allowed to use.
Part of me wants to see more Chris in the mainstream 616, and part of me wants to see him doing alternate-reality stuff like XMF/Exiles/GeNext. Not, though, because I want him kept away from 616 — more because I haven’t liked a lot of 616 for the last few years, and I’d rather see Chris write stuff set in a world without Civil War, Illuminati, whatever wretchedness Bendis and Millar and planning next, etc.
On the other hand, if they let him do what he wanted, he might be able to “fix” (in the perceptions of fans like me) the X-books. I don’t know if they’d let him, alas.
