I find the terrible rictus grins Gary Frank draws on everyone incredibly offputting.
Our library does interfile “adult” graphic novels (as opposed to the Young Adult graphic novels, which have their own section) in with the fiction, but the library users who browse for stuff to read in the fiction stacks are put off by the pictures. Meanwhile, the people who are willing to read graphic novels don’t think to look there for them. I find myself wondering if maybe the adult graphic novels were in the YA comics section, maybe the teens who get bored with Batman would drift to Los Bros Hernandez or Chris Ware or Michael Kupperman.
Conversely in our local library Clone Wars Adventures sits beside That Poor Bastard and Asterix sits beside The Walking Dead in a free-for-all GN section Not a very desirable situation (unless you’re me, when it’s downright convenient).
