Episode 20: Street Fightin’ Man

Episode 20: Street Fightin’ Man

Church Says:

I completely forgot to mention that TJ’s pinup for The Rack went up on that webcomic today!  If you’re not reading it, The Rack is a comic strip about the people at a comic shop that’s also written by me.  People seem to like it.

Man, just let Sam kick some butt already! He’ll probably get his answers faster that way! Everyone would!

  2. Fruitbat says:

Smoking is unhealthy and should not be encouraged, that is a fact . . . but . . . Sam does look pretty darn cool doing it. :-)

If you just want the answers, I can email you privately and tell you how this comic will end.

I’m with JGK150 on this one.

I’ve really enjoyed watching Sam pick fights with the locals. The past two months felt like we’ve been leading up to something explosive. However, having the sheriff show up to break these men apart is a total buzz kill!

I don’t need answers right now, but the pacing of the story is sloooow. But no worries, it seems to just be my issue, so to help me get over it I just try to check in every 2-3 updates so I can read a bunch at once! ;)

I’m sorry that the pacing in She Died In Terrebonne isn’t to everybody’s taste. It’s deliberate on our part, and it appears that some of you want a different comic than what we’re creating. That’s fine.

I want to note that at this point, you’re 40% into the story we’ve laid out. We’re playing a longer game than many webcomics . I’ll think you’ll find that if you reread all of the strips to this point, you’ll see that quite a lot has happened so far, and the second half is going to feature a lot more action and revelations. Again: this is delibrate on our part.

If you want a comic where awesome thing after awesome thing happens, I recommend you check out Awesome Hospital written by my friend Chris Sims. If you want a comic where one man is prying apart a town’s secrets methodically while forces off-camera conspire against him, then you’ve got this one.

My hand’s up as someone who thinks the pacing in She Died in Terrebonne is working just fine. The art and the writing have been kicking butt since episode one.

  7. Dee Bee says:

Wow. I finally got some time to read the comic (which I read straight through starting from the beginning) and I must say this is one of the finest things I’ve read in awhile. I can vouch, as a new reader, that the pacing is just fine.

The writing is excellent! Not a single icky “amateur” line or beat!
The art is fanTastic! What deal did you make with the devil to get such great artists? This and Loneliest Astronauts is some of the best work I’ve seen on this here Internets.

I can’t come to Boston, but I’m really looking forward to those floppies in April!

    Re: pacing; I like it.

Of course it’s always going to be the thing (JIMHO) that an artist/storyteller/creator makes something, in fact works their little bottoms off making it just right, and after all that people don’t like it. :-( Of course if people do like it then that’s great. :-)

There’s just no certianty to it.

Btw, have I mentioned that I’m thoroughly enjoying “She Died in Terrebonne?”

  9. Gin says:

Woah woah woah! Oh internet, if only we could inject tone into our conversations there’d be far less misunderstanding. I’m totally excited about this comic! I’m right with you Kevin, reading the comic as a whole it’s paced wonderfully. However, my reaction was specifically about how it updates once a week. I gotta take it in 2-3 page chunks because the weekly suspense is killing me!

The fact that you’ve got me hooked is enough to tell you that you’re TOTALLY doing something right.
